Trimix 50

Description

The purpose of the Trimix 50 Diver Course is to develop the theoretical and practical skills of existing Tec 50 divers to enable them to safely use a limited range of trimix gases to dive within their current depth qualifications. You’ll extend your bottom time using trimix to a max depth limit to 50 metres/165 feet and learn to plan and execute repetitive decompression dives using a single stage/decompression cylinder. It puts you in a complete tec diving rig, which can be either backmount or sidemount. You’ll also make accelerated decompression dives using EANx or pure oxygen. This is a course where you’ll rise to the challenge and make the commitment to become a technical diver.

To enroll in the Trimix 45 course, you must:

  • Be a  Tec 50 diver

  • Be a Rescue Diver

  • Have a minimum of 50 logged dives, with at least 12 dives on enriched air nitrox deeper than 18 metres/60 feet and 6 dives deeper than 30 metres/100 feet

  • Be at least 18 years old

  • Have a Medical Statement signed by a physician within the last 12 months

Note that qualifying certifications from other diver training organizations may apply – ask your Tec Deep Instructor.

Open circuit equipment - including, per diver, but is not limited to:

  • Double cylinders (minimum 12 l/70 cf each) with isolator manifold if backmounted. (Sidemount equipment may be used if the student has completed their Tec 45 or Tec 50 in Sidemount and the Instructor is a Sidemount Instructor with experience of teaching Sidemount diving at this level)

  • Primary and secondary regulators, one with two metre/seven foot hose (approx.) for gas sharing, and one with SPG

  • One Stage/decompression cylinder with regulator, SPG, mounting hardware and proper labelling/markings

  • BCD and harness – redundant buoyancy control is required (double bladder BCD or dry suit if suitable for weight of equipment worn)

  • Trimix multi-gas dive computer and backup depth gauge/computer

  • Exposure suit appropriate for environment and dive duration. (If students will

use dry suits, they should be trained and experienced in their use.

  • Argon dry suit inflation or other inflation system as needed (students should not inflate dry suit with trimix)

  • Weight system

  • Surface Marker Buoy – as appropriate for the local environment

  • Reel

  • Knife/cutting device and backup

  • Slate

  • Backup mask

  • Compass

  • Lights

Specialty equipment – must be available for all divers to use:

  1. Helium analyzer – strongly recommended

  2. Oxygen Analyzer

  3. Computer with suitable decompression planning software
